GRE Tips

The GRE is an exam, similar to the standardized tests we have taken most of our lives. It is an alternative to the GMAT, which is specific for those of us who are crazy enough to want to pursue an MBA. But I don't know what I want (shocker, I know.) So I guess I am going to be taking the GRE, while I still have the ability to cram lots of information into my brain (thanks Purdue.) So here are some tips that I have accumulated throughout my studying.

1) LISTEN TO YOUR PARENTS. Yes, I know, the once rebellious, hell-raising teen, is actually saying this. My parents have given me some great tips on studying for the GRE and how to work smarter not harder.

2) Ask friends who have taken it. We can learn a lot by other's experiences.

3) Don't listen to music with words. While trying to learn 500 of the "most" important GRE words, it can be kind of hard to focus when God's Plan is playing *on repeat* in your ears. I prefer Peaceful Piano Radio on Apple Music. Or no music at all.

4) Set a timer! Sitting around and trying to conquer this exam is going to be extra hard when you don't set aside focus time. Sit down. Set a timer. Get it done. And then move on with your day.

5) Set yourself up for success. If you aren't super excited about studying one day, then start with areas that you are actually good at. Give yourself a W, no matter how big or small. This will give you the confidence to keep going. Sometimes its not even about the physical exam, its about your mental headspace.

There will be days that are hard and questions that seem almost as stupid as the pronunciation of vase as vaz. But you can do it! If I can do it, I assure you that you can! [This is Maya, she's my d(og)aughter. Enjoy!]
